The Work of a Counselor

So, what do I do as a counselor? There are several things I try to do for my clients.

I listen, so I can understand who the client is and what are their issues. I interpret what they are saying so they can also understand and therefore, go deeper into our work together.

I validate them as human beings, their struggles and successes so that they feel appreciated and seen.

I encourage them and remind them of where they have been and where they hope they are now.

I also try to provide a safe place for them to explore who they are, where they have been and where they want to go, so they could move forward.

And I hold hope for clients, that they can heal and be the authentic wonderful people that they are, until they can hold hope for themselves.

This is what I do for a living. I am full of gratitude that I get to walk alongside my clients on their journey of their lives
